Starting a foundation is often imagined as a structured process: offices, funding plans, teams, and clear systems already in place.
Our reality looks very different.
The African Talents Foundation is a small, independent initiative built step by step — without large institutional backing, without permanent staff, and without guaranteed resources.
What we do have is presence, relationships, and responsibility.
Working across continents
Our work connects Hungary and Nigeria, Europe and Lagos, ideas and lived realities.
This also means working across:
- cultures,
- legal systems,
- expectations,
- and very different economic realities.
Decisions that seem simple on paper often become complex on the ground.
What is urgent locally may not fit into predefined funding categories.
What is needed today cannot always wait for formal structures tomorrow.
Trust before structure
In communities like Makoko, Badagry, or Ajegunle, trust is not automatic.
People have seen many visitors come and go.
Many promises.
Few long-term commitments.
For us, building trust means:
- returning,
- listening more than speaking,
- working with local schools and community members,
- and being transparent about what we can — and cannot — do.
Trust is slow.
But without it, nothing lasts.
Limited resources, real responsibility
As a small foundation, our challenges are very concrete:
- limited financial resources,
- no permanent local infrastructure,
- administrative and legal responsibilities in multiple countries,
- and the emotional weight of working closely with children and families in difficult situations.
Every decision matters.
Every promise must be kept.
Every mistake has consequences.
Why we continue
Despite these challenges, we believe that small foundations play a crucial role.
Because we can stay close.
Because we can adapt.
Because we can respond to real needs without losing ourselves in systems.
Our work does not begin with projects.
It begins with people.
With children.
With schools.
With communities that already exist and deserve support, dignity, and opportunity.
Moving forward, carefully
We are not growing fast.
We are growing responsibly.
Step by step.
Relationship by relationship.
Child by child.
This is not the easiest way to work.
But for us, it is the only honest one.
