Badagry School Support
Local Authority Primary School, Mowo – Badagry
Badagry is a historic coastal town in Lagos State, Nigeria, known for its strong educational traditions and community life. Within this area, Local Authority Primary School, Mowo plays a crucial role in providing basic education for young children from the surrounding community.
The school serves pupils at primary level, many of whom come from families facing serious economic challenges. Classrooms are often overcrowded, with three or sometimes four children sharing a single bench. Teaching staff work with limited resources, yet remain deeply committed to their students’ development.
Our Connection to the School
Our relationship with this school is personal and rooted in trust.
The school leadership welcomed us warmly during our visit, and we were able to spend time understanding the everyday realities of teaching and learning in this environment. For members of our foundation, this school is especially meaningful: two people working closely with African Talents Foundation were educated here, which strengthens our long-term commitment to supporting this community.
This is not a distant initiative — it is a place where personal histories and future opportunities meet.
How We Support the School
Our aim is to support both students and teachers in practical, sustainable ways.
Our focus areas include:
- basic teaching materials (exercise books, pens, chalk, blackboards),
- school furniture and classroom improvements,
- learning tools that help teachers work more effectively,
- support for maintaining and improving the school building and yard.
Even small improvements can significantly change the learning experience for young children.
Looking Ahead
Education at primary level is the foundation of everything that follows. Without a stable start, children face long-term disadvantages that are difficult to overcome.
In Badagry, we see motivated teachers, eager children, and a community that values education — but lacks resources. Our goal is to stand alongside this school, offering consistent and respectful support over time.
We also welcome volunteers and partners who share our commitment to education and would like to contribute their skills or experience to this work.
